Stafford Moore Lane (1814-1868)

Second son of John Lane of Lower Bridmore Farm.

In 1850 – at about the time of this portrait – Stafford married

Louisa Futcher of Fovant.  They lived at Alvediston, Fovant

and Chittoe.  Stafford farmed and later became a Farm Bailiff

at Spye Park.  He appears to have had a certain "reputation"

with horses, money – and women.

He lies buried at Chittoe Heath.

The photograph is from an oil painting in the possession of

Mr Thomas Thatcher of Sutton Mandeville

Desmond Hawkins – writer and broadcaster (1908-1999)
